The Kingdom of the Happy Land

Ronnie Pepper presents the history of the Kingdom of the Happy Land, a settlement in Henderson County established by formerly enslaved people who worked the land and eventually came to own it along the North and South Carolina border. The talk is based on research from the Black History Research Committee, building on an account originally written by Sadie Patton.
