Our take

Dedicated in 1934 on reclaimed land, now 119 acres drawing an estimated four million visits a year. The swim is protected and flat, the lawn holds 40 first-come picnic sites, and gates open at 4 a.m. for the dawn-lap crowd. When locals say beach, this is usually the one they mean.
