Sunrise entry requires a vehicle reservation on recreation.gov, so book that before you plan anything else, they go fast. Or skip the alarm and come up for daytime crater views and a walk into the cinder landscape on Keoneheʻeheʻe, the Sliding Sands trail. Bring real layers, it's cold up there.
