A river valley of heiau, waterfalls, and slow boats.
The Wailua corridor was the seat of Kauaʻi's chiefs, and its heiau complex is a National Historic Landmark, so move through with respect. Cruise or paddle upriver to the Fern Grotto, then drive the short spurs to the ʻOpaekaʻa Falls and Wailua Falls lookouts. One park, half a day, no sweat required.
