Alakoko Fishpond Overlook
The fishpond the menehune built overnight, so the story goes.
Alakoko bends the Huleʻia River behind a hand-stacked lava wall, and the pull-off on Hulemalu Road above Nawiliwili is the way to take it in. The nonprofit Malama Huleʻia is clearing mangrove and rebuilding the wall. Third Saturday of the month they run community workdays, if you'd rather get muddy than look.
