Kalopa State Recreation Area
A native ʻohiʻa forest you can walk in twenty minutes.
The 0.7-mile nature loop sits at 2,000 feet above the Hamakua coast, cool and birdsong-quiet. Open daily 7 to 8, no entrance fee. The cabins are shut through 2026, but campsites still book through the state's Explore Outdoor Hawaiʻi system.
