Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park

The clearest water on the Kona side, in a bay heavy with history.

Our take

This is where Captain Cook arrived in 1779, and Hikiau Heiau still stands at Napoʻopoʻo, so treat the shoreline with respect and stay off the heiau. To reach the monument side, hike down the Kaʻawaloa Trail or go with a permitted kayak tour. The snorkeling over that reef is the draw.
