Laʻaloa Beach Park (Magic Sands)
The beach that loses its sand every winter and takes it back.
Big surf strips Laʻaloa down to bare lava rock, then the sand drifts home and the bodysurfing turns on. It's the best shorebreak ride on Aliʻi Drive, with a lifeguard tower on the sand. County hours are 7am to 8pm and the lot is tiny, so go early. Locals still call it Magic Sands or White Sands.
